It seems summer has arrived in the space of a few hours - the past few weeks have hinted at double digits, while Mother Nature maintained a single status, as if she was afraid to fully commit. Today as I drove to the last full day of school, I had all the windows in my car opened to inhale and welcome the fresh balmy air I had been longing for. Dare I say, I sensed that hint of humidity and almost, barely almost, had a second of regret of what that might entail, but I soldiered on, although in the back of my mind I was rueing the fact that when my air conditioning unit seized last fall, I cavalierly announced to the mechanic diagnosing the issue, "Go ahead, remove it. Where did I leave off? Oh yes, I believe I had arrived in Kingston, (now two weeks ago). Despite the mental preparation I underwent in anticipation of dealing with Ontario's summertime humidity, I was nevertheless rendered almost helpless as I succumbed to the high and humid temperature. The first night spent in the abode that would be my home base for the year, consisted of throwing a sheet across the top of the bed and flinging my supine body spread-eagled atop it, followed by an attempt to move as little as possible, while trying to drown out the persistent drone of the fan on the dresser and to position my head in such a way as to avoid the glare of an overhead light in an apartment opposite that leered at me from a curtain-less window. "Is this paradise, or what?", I wondered to myself, trying to convince myself I had made the right decision to move east. This all followed an event earlier in the evening which had me, in an attempt to cool off before retiring,

Mahone Bay Scarecrow Festival

Yesterday we headed to Mahone Bay despite the rain, to take a look at the Annual Scarecrow Fest and Antique Fair. Here are some of the (somewhat bedraggled) entrants. A nod to "The Simpsons", and a hint of "Alice in Wonderland", as well as Dorothy and The Scarecrow from "The Wizard of Oz". Mahone Bay's brightly coloured buildings are charming even in the foggy drizzle of a September morning.
