Last weekend I traveled by boat and by bus; this weekend it was by rental car. It was a bit disconcerting at first, getting used to the dimensions of the car on the windy, narrow routes between many of the towns, but eventually I became comfortable with it all. Thankfully, for the first driving-on-the-left sojourn, the car was an automatic - a little pricier, but far less confusing than shifting with the left hand would have been on top of everything else. Now, I feel as if I can handle that next time. Baby steps.
So, Killarney was the first port of call on Saturday. It is a major tourist draw sitting on beautiful Loch Leane and is a common finishing point for those driving around the scenic Ring of Kerry. Ross Castle, built in the 16th century sits with a gorgeous vista of the Loch.
On around to Cahersiveen, then Waterville and the windswept vista at Derrynane National Park.
The dunes reminded me of my Aunt Nan's place on the beach in Portrane outside Dublin.

The The recommended route is to do it counter-clockwise, which my co-driver and I followed. The weather kept changing every few minutes and I was able to capture some of its majesty in these photos:

More to come..,
