Sad News

On Monday, a dear friend died.
Sarah Lynk first welcomed me into her kitchen in 1986 and I returned many times afterwards, sometimes for a cup of tea and a home-made butter tart, sometimes for a grand meal in her elegant dining room.  When Sarah asked you for dinner, you never knew who else would be there, or how many.  Her heart was unbelievably huge, her capacity for love - boundless and her gift for making friends - unmatched.  No one left her home empty-handed.  Sarah always pushed something into our hands, whether it was a batch of freshly baked rolls, warm biscuits, sumptuous butter tarts or stuffed grape leaves.
Sarah declined into the grasp of dementia the last few years of her life, but I did enjoy a lucid visit with her last summer.  Her wonderful husband, Stan, did the cooking that time. Being in their home was like stepping onto a movie set - two front rooms, one with a piano - an inviting dining room and a welcoming kitchen.
Sarah, you will live in my heart forever. Rest in Peace.
